12/16/24 Rachel and Poppy using the heeling rig

Rachel was able to work with Poppy more this week using the heeling rig. Here are today's practices. Poppy's AS are good and she checks in well after each one. Sometimes she heels good and sometimes she lags. She still doesn't check in while heeling very often, but she is starting to.

No videos with Janet and Jeanne. Didn't have many practices this week. Poppy lags and doesn't check in except a few times. She does the AS well and may check in after those.

12-7-24 Week 7 Exam Attempt/Mary and Ellie

At long last here it is…our week 7 exam run through. Not perfect by any means but much better than our last try (months ago). I was frustrated and Ellie seemed confused. We kind of fell apart. So, we took a break and went back to the basics. I think it helped. Here’s how it went this extremely cold morning. Oh, if you don’t have time to watch the whole video (I know it’s long) just fast forward to the end and watch the recall. It’s a classic Ellie move. 🤣

The Heeling Rig

I love the philosophy behind the KMODT. It’s about giving the dog choice. They can choose to obey or get a correction when they choose not to. As a handler, consistently helping the dog make the correct choice is critical. I’m posting this video because my little dog, Ellie, was choosing not to maintain heel position. Even with corrections she tended to lag and sometimes wander off. Then Roxanne suggested I use a heeling rig that would bring her into better heel position. Here’s a video of the rig I used to help Ellie understand what heel position is. We’ve been at this for about a month and though Ellie is not perfect she has greatly improved.

If using a string, loop it through the tab on her collar.

Loop (don’t tie) the leash or string around your leg.

12/8/24 Week 7 Exam Jeanne and Janet with Poppy

Not really happy with these in general, but some parts were ok. We definitely needed more practice sessions. Too many distractions with at least 100 geese squawking, the other dogs barking at the window, Keith coming and going in the truck, and nighttime coming fast.

12/7/24 Week 7 Exam with Rachel and Poppy

Rachel and Poppy had some good practices with no distractions. She did a test tonight with lots of distractions... the dogs, Keith and food.
