Both Jeanne and Janet had some good moments with Poppy... and not so good moments. We struggled with auto sits. At one point with Jeanne, she self corrected to the left side after starting out on the right after a turn, but there was some movement at the 3 minute sit/stay and the stand/stay. Janet started out pretty good with Poppy staying close, even with the loud generator turned on outside, but she struggled with the down and stand, which she did good on the second try. Poppy did pretty good with Rachel, despite the new smells of mice running around the barn and Rachel wearing gloves for the first time. She did much better with the downs, though Rachel did forget to not say "stay" twice on the first sit/stay and forgot to say "stay" for the stand, but she still stood nicely!
Poppy rarely checks in with all of us, even with the weaving, pace changes and using an "alley" for practice. She even seems to shut down quickly. But the wince does seem to help get her moving.
Vickster's Test
ReplyDeletePop Quiz is pass. But the Vickster's tests are not passes. The Vickster's Test is an i dicator if the dog is working FOR and WITH the handler. Poppy isn't believing any of you so she's basically ignoring you.
ReplyDeletePointers:
1) Please don't repeat the "Heel" command as you are teaching her to ignore you. Instead, work her ON leash, briskly, the "J" loop below that left knee, and work SHARP Turns/Immediate Halts. Your Pace, each of you is far to slow, Poppy IS athletic and will do 100% better if you consistently move faster when heeling.
2) On the Stays, you will find working her on a Place Board will help to eliminate the lowering of her head.
3) On the Down, there should be no needed pressure, instead Poppy should read your mechanics and drop like a rock immediately. GO back and review the Down Correction and work it consistently until she drops like a rock when she sees your mechanics.
4) No verbal "Sit", that.ceased on Week 3.
Do you need any extra videos from me to understand what to do to help Poppy understand what to do?

Thanks. This reinforces what we were thinking we needed to do. Will let you know if we have specific issues after trying these pointers.
ReplyDeleteWould never say no to extra videos! They are very helpful
